In my daily reading, I came across a couple prayers that are truly beautiful and speak to the heart of someone going through adversity. The first is a prayer from St. Teresa of Avila. For those that don’t believe in canonization, I would ask that you not focus on her title, but on the content of her message.
“Let nothing trouble you / Let nothing frighten you Everything passes / God never changes Patience / Obtains all Whoever has God / Wants for nothing God alone is enough.”
She has a very interesting life story with many lessons we can learn from today. Mainly, she felt that love should be central in all things, including prayer life. And, of course, it should be because “God is love.” (1 John 4:8) You can read her short biography here if you feel so inclined.
Since “God alone is enough,” here’s a good prayer to help remind us of that and to help us put that into action in our lives.
“My Lord and my God, take from me everything that distances me from you. My Lord and my God, give me everything that brings me closer to you. My Lord and my God, detach me from myself to give my all to you.”
