The news cycle is 24 hours a day of unmitigated misery. We are constantly bombarded by negativity, hatred and disrespect. And, then comes a ‘random act of kindness’ that breaks through the darkness reflecting the light of God….

I have a dear friend, Jane, who lives in Connecticut. We used to see and talk with each other on a regular basis but since our family moved to Florida we haven’t had the same opportunities, and with both of us so busy, it has been more like an occasional call, email or text. This week I received a text message from her that was one of those priceless gifts that can take your breath away. This is what it said:

“Just want you to know how much I always love getting your Christmas pics.”

Attached was the photo above displaying ten years of our Christmas photo cards. Jane’s kindness touched my heart. Her love and thoughtfulness made my day and lifted me right out of my “busyness.”

Isn’t this the love and thoughtfulness the Bible calls us to?

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Colossians 3:12

Thank you, Jane for giving us a wonderful example of love and kindness. You have reminded us all, that we are called to look for opportunities in life in which we can break through the darkness and reflect the light of Jesus.

“In a surge of anger I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting kindness I will have compassion on you,” says the LORD your Redeemer. Isaiah 54:8

“Love one another as I have love you”. John 131:34b
