Friends, a thought for today.
“…what we need to know, is not just that God exists, not just that beyond the steely brightness of the stars there is a cosmic intelligence of some kind that keeps the whole show going, but that there is a God right here in the thick of our day-by-day lives who may not be writing messages about Himself in the stars but in one way or another is trying to get messages through our blindness as we move around down here knee-deep in the fragrant muck and misery and marvel of the world.”
“It is not objective proof of God’s existence that we want but the experience of God’s presence. That is the miracle we are really after, and that is also, I think, the miracle that we really get.”
Quote from The Magnificent Defeat by C. Frederick Buechner.
Years ago, when I found myself thrust without warning into a journey through grief, I believed in God. I was thirty-five and yet after years of religious upbringing, I was unaware that I lacked the experience of God’s presence in my life. Thankfully, I was not foolish enough to measure God’s relationship with me in terms of my relationship with Him. Brought to the brink of despair, I simply collapsed begging for His mercy and presence in my life. I clung to a smoldering ember of hope. God was faithful to His Word and the provisions of heaven poured into my life. Life was often a roller coaster ride, but even the lowest dips were used for good in His time and according to His Will.
Today, we are on a journey of loss, uncertainty, and chaos. We cannot know the future, but we can know the One who does. There is no time to delay. This world and this life were never forever. Seek out the heart of God and the close personal experience of His presence in your life. Choose eternity. Choose Jesus who made eternal life possible. He alone can lead us through these troubled times. Praying for you, my faithful readers. Praying that this blog will bring you hope, and give a voice to God’s Word in your life.
My Donna….these words really reach the deepest part of the heart…… there is nothing more personal than a personal relationship with the Lord. Thank you for each and every reminder of His wonderful presence which is always available to us.
” a smoldering Ember of Hope” I never thought about it in those terms but I guess that’s what I’ve been holding on to for many years. Without hope there is no future that we can see. But with hope we can see Beyond the Horizon and know that sooner or later God will rescue us.
