In our country, we are facing many difficulties and uncertainties.  With a pandemic that has lasted now more than six months, businesses struggling, people uncertain about their next paycheck, and the uncertainty of a major election thrown on top of all of it, we are in need of some protection and peace of mind.  Fortunately for us, in God’s love and compassion, He has given us a special source of protection for all life’s challenges such as these.  He has given us guardian angels.

In Matthew 18:10, Jesus says, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels look upon the face of my heavenly Father.” (italics added by me for emphasis)

Jesus clearly teaches that there are angels taking care of us, even the least among us.  In this case, He is speaking of little children.  As a father of three little children, I can attest to the protection by those angels when I see that one of my children has climbed onto a high place that they should not be or grabbed something sharp or dangerous that they should not have and no harm comes to them.  In children, we can see that extraordinary protection in concrete ways.

For us, we also receive this Heavenly protection from God, though we may struggle to see it manifest.  However, just because we do not see concrete evidence on a daily basis, it does not mean that our protection is not there.  We know that God’s providence guides us and that the Holy Spirit dwells within.  We also know that in His love, God created a Heavenly helper and messenger for each of us to guide us through the tumultuous terrain of our lives.

For it is written: “‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully;’” Luke 4:10

So, let us thank our Heavenly Father for such a wonderful gift.  Out of His love, He has remembered each one of us and has provided us so many sources of protection and guidance so that we would be led home to Him.

Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation? Hebrews 1:14

And when you think of your guardian angel and want to express your appreciation for that beautiful messenger, guide, and protector, I would recommend the following:

Angel of God,

My guardian dear,

To whom God’s love commits me here,

Ever this day be at my side,

To light and guard,

To rule and guide.
